Two Perspectives

So, I am reading "The Killer Angels" and what I am most impressed by is the author's ability to show both sides of the story. I am constantly telling my fifth graders there is more than one side to every story. The Civil War is an interesting time period to learn more about for me because each side has a distinct point of view. The Civil War is something in history that definately has more than one perspective but I can't remember learning anything except the North won and it ended slavery.

  1. Rachel,
I too found the book "Killing Angels" very impressive. It helped to give me a better understanding of the South's side of the battle. I have always just thought about the North's side of everything. I had ancestors fighting in the Civil War, but like you, I didn't really know much more than the North won and slavery ended. I thought this book was excellent and will really aid me the next time I teach this part of history.

  2. Thanks Sharon! It was totally new to me to learn about the Civil War from the South's perspective. That has what kept my interest. Shaara does an excellent job giving a real picture with the people involved.

  3. To see and understand both Longstreet and Chamberlain's sides was indeed impressive.
